INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — An Indianapolis church has placed statues of
Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus in a cage of fencing topped with barbed
wired to protest the Trump administration’s zero tolerance immigration
policy. The statues were erected Tuesday morning outside Christ Church Cathedral on downtown Indianapolis’ Monument Circle and surrounded by the fencing.
The Episcopalian church’s dean and rector, the Rev. Stephen Carlsen,
says the display that’s part of the church’s “Every Family is Holy
Campaign” condemns the nation’s immigration policy that’s holding
families in detention centers at the U.S.-Mexico border. He says the Holy Family was “a homeless family with nowhere to stay”
and that the Bible says “we’re supposed to love our neighbors as
ourselves.”President Donald Trump recently ended his administration’s practice of separating families detained at the border.
Why are Episcopalians so damn cringey?
They never left the Roman Empire just their province which is like immigrating from Colorado to Kansas
A family going from one province to another within a nation was the equivalent of illegal immigrants from outside a nation?
Also, they weren’t really homeless, they were travelers with no inn for the night. And they ended up staying in a barn, which was worse conditions than what many illegal immigrant detainees stay in.
Didn’t Jesus warn about virtue-signalling?
Yes, yes he did.
They traveled to take a census. You know, like, obeying the LAW?
But sure, a young family traveling to the capital of the Roman Empire because IT WAS THE LAW is exactly the same as families coming into a foreign country AGAINST THE LAW.
I’d curse this church but it’s already pretty cursed as it is.
…pretty sure people are referring to the flight to Egypt when they talk about the Holy Family as refugees/immigrants, but go off I guess.
It wouldn’t be a Nativity set then. And yes, I have seen people compare Joseph and Mary going to Bethlehem to illegal immigrants.
In any case Egypt was also Roman province, so that still falls flat.
It would also be saying Mexico is about as bad as mass infanticide.
