self-care-club:

I have this problem where every time I make a mistake, no matter how insignificant, my brain immediately starts berating me: “Idiot!”, “You’re so stupid!”, etc.

My therapist has been teaching me to recognize and counter these thoughts by following them with thoughts like…

  • It was just a mistake, everyone makes them.
  • I’m not an idiot.
  • I made a mistake, but I can fix it.
  • What did I learn from this?
  • If someone else had done this, would I think they were stupid?
  • That was no big deal!

You don’t deserve to be called names, even by your own mind!
