Known for: Academy Award winning actor best known for starring in many beloved western films. Major film credits of his include Stagecoach, Red River, The Searchers, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, True Grit, The Quiet Man, Rio Bravo, The Longest Day, & The Shootist. He also played Genghis Khan in one movie, but the less said about that the better! He was also known by his nickname “The Duke”.

Evidence of Faith: John actually was a Protestant for most of his life, through according to Adherents.com, he did marry a Catholic woman & he did raise his children to be Catholics. That same article & this article from OSV Newsweekly state that before his death in 1979, John converted to Catholicism & he had a Catholic funeral. His son Patrick confirmed this conversion.
