i don’t mean to be rude but people on this site are so historically illiterate… almost every time i see an accurate and good post about the achievements of societies outside of europe i scroll down and see that it’s been co-opted by some ethnonationalist weirdo who’s like “yeah and also arabs taught medieval europeans how to bathe themselves” or something like that and people just go along with it

also literally anything about the burning of the library of alexandria. that god damn post with the fucking… line graph of technological development in western civilization

Pretty much half of all posts about medieval Europe on Tumblr read like ‘Everyone sat around in their own poo and burned a million women at the stake just because every single person was a violent, illiterate misogynist with one tooth and ten STDs. Also they were all dumbasses because they were Christians.’

And it hurts my brain unbelievably. You can appreciate and acknowledge non-European civilisations, and non-medieval time periods in Europe without spreading patently false information about how medieval Europe was the worst in every way.

This especially gets me going since medieval Europe is my favorite era of history and it seems all anyone does is shit on it. Though I guess shitting on it has been a proud tradition ever since the Renaissance, so what can you do really?
