If money is the root of all evil, why do they ask for it at church?

Gosh I hate it when people use this is some kind of “checkmate”. Churches are nonprofit organizations. They survive solely off the donations of their members. Newsflash: keeping the lights on and the building in order costs money. This is also probably the most misquoted verse in the Bible. The LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Not money itself. There are many passionate wealthy Christians who donate large sums of their wealth to help other people.

Hell the actual quote is “The love of money is the root of many evils,” so it’s not even saying greed is the end-all-be-all to sin, you can be generous but still evil.
