Imagine thinking it’s “icky” for a 27 year old man to date an 18 year old girl. It’s always Americans who say it as well. In Europe it’s not even considered an issue.
The funniest part was a 27 year old dude who was like “I’d feel creepy even dating a 21 year old girl” lol get a grip. American puritanism is wild.
My father was 20 years older than my mother when they married. He was 39, she was 19. They lived together 34 years when my father passed away from cancer.
My mom is now 61 and my stepfather is 78.
My aunt married a man 12 years younger than herself. She was 36, he was 24. They’ve been together about 25 years and still going strong.
I can’t get behind the complaints about age gaps. Some people are very mature young, while others are very immature all their lives. As long as nobody is under 18, I think each case should be examined closely in it’s own merit and not judged based on the age gap.
Usually if an older man or older woman is actively seeking out younger partners it’s because they want the power inbalance of being years and years older. They want to be able to mold the younger person into exactly what they want and have all the power in the relationship.
This is not always the case, but seeing someone who is spending a lot of time with minors and suddenly dating them when they turn 18 is really scary. They’ve probably been grooming those minors.
Maturity doesn’t suddenly hit you when you turn 18, either. It takes a long time, and your early 20s are a big part of that.
I thought people were more up in arms over him overstepping boundaries with a 14 year old.
The problem isn’t the age gap but men going after and grooming minors to date them once they are legally allowed to be romantic/sexual with them. It’s a huge unbalance in the power of a relationship. Understanding that is not puritanism but if it is then damn call me Patience McPrude.
