Do u ever wish people would stop talking in metaphors whenever they talk about religion? Bc like- I’m rather dumb and I interpret things Very Wrong sometimes. Like “carry your cross” and “lean on Jesus” are beautiful phrases and important but WHAT DOES IT PRACTICALLY MEAN FAM???? NEED MÁS HOMILY ON THIS
not to mock you (I have friends who will likely understand where you are coming from), but now I want to make a meme where we reduce common Christian phrases and terminology with technical speak.
Wait, I thought “offer it up” was referring to “cast your cares on him” or “bring it to God” ie to pray about something and trust God rather than freak out
Nope! Of course offering up a prayer means something different, but the response to suffering coined “offer it up” is referring to offering up our suffering as a sacrifice to God, either for His Glory or for a specific intention. When Christ died He redeemed suffering and now our suffering, when offered to God, actually has power. For instance, when we fast and pray, our prayer is more powerful than without fasting. So too is prayer during suffering offered to God. I have chronic pain, and frequently offer it up for whatever is on my heart – “Lord, I offer up this pain for the conversion of my family and for the souls in purgatory.”
