On your Little Mermaid post, I do have to add that Ariel still makes a deal with the devil and never gets called out on it. Everything about “poor unfortunate souls” screams “I’m evil.” That was not present in the original story, where the sea witch was neutral. Ariel makes a deal with a clear evil and its never addressed. That’s my biggest problem with that movie.

That’s fair enough, but I always chalked it up to “desperate and naive teen mentality”, in that she was fleeing a toxic home environment and was willing to take risks she otherwise would have avoided

I’d like to add that her dad told her to stay away, and he was so wrong about humans, so is he being about Ursula?
