I find the outcry over Tumblr getting rid of NSFW content so bizarre, especially when it’s something largely motivated because they were struggling to protect minors on this site. Like, does your whole being just revolve around sexual gratification? Do you have no interest in anything other than perversions? Does your desire to get off trump the minors that were being exploited and preyed upon?
My thoughts exactly. I get some of the criticism concerning the algorithm flagging random stuff which is just stupid. But this outcry literally about removing porn from a site that minors frequent is a a clear sign that it is obviously necessary to set some things straight again. It is not normal for explicit sexual stuff to be ever present everywhere you look. Maybe we’ll get back down to earth finally.
Yeah it’s clear the algorithm needs worked on and urgently so it’s fair to criticise that, but that doesn’t mean the desire to move in that direction is bad. People don’t tag their graphic content as NSFW (and even then, those tags don’t hide posts if you were to click onto their blog) so it’s very easy to come across stuff you don’t want to, and a lot of blogs glorify and revolve encouraging young people (of questionable ages) to bare themselves for notes or sharing those kinds of photos of people, often without their consent – it’s horrible. There definitely needs to be something done about it, and I hope more sites take steps in the right direction also
