No but for real there’s shooting yourself in the foot and then there’s aiming a whole fucking bazooka at your legs. I cannot fathom what Tumblr is thinking banning “adult contact” in its entirety. I’m very much not a fan of porn but they even admitted that they’re using bots to decide what is and isn’t “adult content“, and judging by how well those bots have worked in the past (doing things like blocking a video of my cat Sophie for nudity and applying “restricted content“ filters on the most random of posts), this will only guarantee that more completely innocent blogs get nuked, as well as things like art blogs that show little too much anime titty or fanfiction that mentions the sex. Even Christian sex info blogs like @holy-sexuality could be in danger. This is the implosion of the website as we know it. Tumblr will be as obsolete as Myspace and as deleted as Vine in the next six months.
I was worried about this too. I want it to work out but knowing this site’s competency…
You know the weirdest thing about Christmas “encroaching” on Thanksgiving and Halloween?

Like, the 12 Days of Christmas are an actual religious season, stretching from Dec 25th to Jan 6th (The Feast of the Epiphany).
Everything before that is Advent, which is just a step down from Lent for Christians…
If you’re gonna commercialize a religious holiday at least get the DATES RIGHT capitalism…

‘Everyone stops the Christmas music and starts taking down the decorations at 12:00 AM December 26th, meanwhile I’m using my feast day to finally start the Christmas season, which lasts at least until Epiphany and technically could be until Candlemas depending on the calendar
All it took was ad revenue! All the stolen content, revenge porn, and kiddie porn being reported meant nothing but the purse strings? You bet your sweet ass this progressive site would finally end adult content over that and nothing else.
I realize that some people do, in fact, use pornography to cope, but please understand that it’s not healthy from any perspective. If Tumblr 18+ content ban is freaking you out because you’re going to lose your emotional crutch, please consider seeking help from a professional.
I saw people objecting because “but what if we don’t want to use other websites!!” like if porn is so embarrassing to you in any context but tumblr, then you’re figuring out that it’s a problem and you need to fight it. Praying for anyone who’s dealing with this addiction and realizing what a negative impact it’s having on their lives.
I personally doubt that tumblr is gonna effectively ban ALL porn (because of how inept their bot detectors seem to act), but for those freaking out about it: Fight The New Drug has a bunch of resources and tips for those wanting to kick their habit. It’s secular, encouraging, and constantly cites research.
I have two blogs, one relating to reproductive health and another about Christian sexuality and chastity. Idk if either of them will get deleted or if it will lead to my main getting deleted, but if anything happens – I may try and get my blog back, or just start a new one fresh. We’ll have to see. Just wanted to share it here in case we all wake up one day and my blog is deactivated lol
