“Captain Marvel should smile more” “she looks so serious all the time” “she should smile more” “she’ll look better with a smile”

BRIE LARSON SNAPPED

My God, did some clueless asshole actually say that?

This is hilarious

Oh my god I love her 😂😂😂

A+++ Quality Snapback

I’m here for actresses who clap back at their sexist trolls. Also, I didn’t think Benny Cucumber could look any creepier.

I was wrong.

Except they weren’t complaining about the poster, they were complaining  about the trailer.

In the poster, she looks kinda determined.

Also, I haven’t seen a single person complaining about the lack of smiling, instead of the lack of facial expressions in general.

Well, if you didn’t see it, then I guess it didn’t happen. Case closed, everyone…

Sorry, but that’s the vibe I’m getting from the criticism.  People were worried from day one that Brie was not a good fit and that she would be wooden as fuck when it came to the role.

If you look at Winter Soldier, Doctor Strange and Iron Man 3, all the trailers display a greater range of emotion and acting from the main protagonist than the Captain Marvel trailer.

Cumberpatch displays wonder, confusion, seriousness and despair in the first Strange trailer.  Evans displays levity, anger and seriousness in the Winter Soldier trailer.

Maybe a case could be made for Iron Man 3′s trailer, where Tony doesn’t show a lot of different emotion, but that’s offset by the fact that we had three films with his involvement to establish his character.

At best, Brie flashes one smile and the rest of the trailer is her staring seriously at the camera.  They even call direct attention to it by having a transition from her being a girl to being in training to being an adult in the trailer, all of her with the same serious expression.  This isn’t helped with the fact that her work in the voiceover sounds flat and somewhat monotone.

The trailer for Doctor Strange offers the best comparison.  First film for a character with a secondary character doing about half of the voice over.  The first Strange trailer explicitly tried to get a message across, that this was something new (Marvel Mystic) and they illustrate that with text and visuals, displaying magic and having the entire affair work in a somewhat dreamy pace and tone.

What does Captain Marvel provide us?  Brie’s voice work has her sound boring.  The visuals don’t suggest anything outstanding, like GotG and Thor’s 80′s aesthetic.  I criticized the hell out of the Black Panther trailer but even I can acknowledge that it played up what made it unique; hip hop and Wakanda, trying to appeal to a target demographic.

At best, Captain Marvel has one sign of the intent of the trailer. And that was the stupid “A HER O” line.

Everything else was bland.  Brie was boring.  And overall the tone is overwhelmingly ‘meh’.  People are right to criticize it because this trailer projects a palpable aura of ‘super serious, straight faced boring”.

To put this into perspective.  I actually was a Carol Danvers fan, when she was Ms Marvel.  I have seen every MCU film in theaters, starting with Iron Man.  And I am sorely tempted to skip this film because I am so completely underwhelmed by it.

And by the way, this entire attempt to make this about Brie being a woman and not her shitty display in the trailer, especially coming from the lead actress, doesn’t assuage my fears about this film being horseshit.

See:  The Last Jedi and Ghostbusters.

When you insert the ideology or political view point into the movie and shoe-horn it into it you break the back of the story.

In other words, I’m scared this could be just another bullshit “girl power” movie which shits all over the Captain Marvel canon.

That’s the reason it was delayed for an extra 6 months, Omega. It literally was halfway done, they tested some shit and it came off as “90′s girl power” and they told the director “Start over.” They literally reshot the first half of the movie.

…..oh fuck me sideways

Sam Jackson even was like “I gotta go back to the mother fucking studio to reshoot this mother fucking movie. Someone fucked it up.”

diviscetera:

marvel exec #1: i don’t want to waste valuable time explaining to the audience that captain marvel is set in the nineties, but i still wanna make sure they’re aware

marvel exec #2: hmm, that’s a good point. we need something that’s so clearly from the nineties that no one will even think they’re in the present.

both of them, at the exact same time: blockbuster video.
