I just know things. One of the things I know is that Next Generation got better after it’s 2nd Season when it actually found its niche, and people took note of this happening in tandem with Riker growing out his goatee, so they now call a show getting much better after a period of “meh” Growing the Beard. (An antithesis to Jumping the Shark)

I love the implication that Picard totally expected them to have that shared experience, and that if there had been other human men in the room he would have expected them to relate. This implies that despite Picard’s love for older pastimes, building ships in bottles is still common enough in the 24th century that he expects most humans to be familiar with the hobby.
